Helen P. O'Laughlin

d. September 6, 2012

Helen P. O’Laughlin, died on September 6, 2012 at Golden Living Center – Continental Manor in Randolph.

A Celebration Service of Helen’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Randolph Community Funeral Home, 208 S. High Street, Randolph. A private family burial will be held on Monday at Annunciation Catholic Cemetery, Randolph.

Helen’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

Helen was born to Lithuanian immigrants Justin Woreck (Wariekis) and Johanna (Stepsis). Helen graduated as valedictorian from Beaver Dam High School and worked as a farmer’s wife and a secretary at the Fox Lake correctional Facility retiring in 2008 at the age of ninety.

Remembering that Helen was born before women could vote and that it was several generations before opportunities were open to all women, those who knew Helen know that she could have been an economist, an engineer, a carpenter, an auto mechanic, or an Alaskan game hunter.

Smart as a whip, she co-managed a farm through good times and bad, took classes in woodworking, computers, auto mechanics and gun safety. Helen regularly beat her teacher nephew and niece at a cut-throat game of Scrabble.

Helen will be remembered for her generosity, stubbornness, humor, pride, love, intensity, loyalty, and privacy. She will continue to be loved, admired, and missed.

Helen’s survivors include the children of her brother Ambose: Carol Karki, Mary Schick, Betty Marshall, and John, Peter and Michael Woreck, and many nieces and nephews of her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ambrose and Lawrence, and her husband, Bernard O’Laughlin.
