Elsie Edna Streekstra

Elsie E. Streekstra, age 93 of Randolph and formerly of Friesland, died on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at the Christian Home in Waupun.
Elsie was born on August 26, 1919 in Sanborn, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Katherine “Kate” (Navis) Elgersma. She married George Streekstra on August 8, 1945 in Waupun. Elsie was employed for many years at Jung Seed Company in Randolph, retiring at the young age of 79.

Elsie was a longtime member of First Reformed Church in Friesland where she was involved with the Ladies Aid and other church work. For the past 6 years, Elsie was a member of the Second Randolph Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and reading.

Elsie is survived by her children: Ann (Alvin) Boerson, Waupun, Annette Hopp, Ripon, Harry (Helen) Streekstra, Wisconsin Rapids, Connie (Bruce) Campbell, Rockford, IL, Jerry (Rhonda) Streekstra, Randolph, Don (Sue) Streekstra, Mayville, Dennis (Mary Kay) Streekstra, Manitowoc, and Kathy (Elton) Kleist, Orange Park, FL. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and her sister, Gladyce (Cliff) Syens, Randolph.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, a son-in-law, Howard Hopp, an infant grandson, Austin Steger, a sister, Marie Klaver, and two brothers, Gerritt and Jake Elgersma.

A Celebration Service of Elsie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at First Reformed Church, 107 E Winnebago St., Friesland, with Rev. Rob Ford officiating. Elsie will then be laid to rest in the Friesland Cemetery on her wedding anniversary.

Elsie’s family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the hour of services.

A memorial fund has been established in Elsie’s name.

A special thank you from Elsie’s family to the staff of Golden Years Living in Randolph, where Elsie resided for two years, and to the staff of the Christian Home for the past three months of exceptional care that was provided.
