Hans Katsma

Hans Katsma, 94 of Randolph, went to his heavenly home on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Golden Living Center - Continental Manor of Randolph.

Hans was born on May 15, 1920 in the Town of Randolph, son of Dewey and Jennie (Smedema-Kok) Katsma. He was united in marriage to Stella Stuit of Lodgepole, South Dakota, on December 10, 1941 in East Friesland. Hans worked for Cliff’s Electric of Friesland, Busse Brothers of Randolph and Baptist Assembly of Green Lake after retirement. He loved to do electrical jobs on the side. He did all the electrical for his brother Clarence’s new home and for his daughter Bonnie’s new homes. He was a jack of all trades from installing furnaces to plumbing to working on cars. As a teenager, he and his dad put a battery on the windmill and had electric lights in the barn. Hans was a member of First Randolph Christian Reformed Church. He was a faithful Christian man and didn’t worry about having materialistic things; he lived by his faith every day.

Hans is survived by one daughter Janice (Eugene) Bobholz of Friesland and three sons, Dale (Susie) Katsma of Plymouth; Jon (Laurie) Katsma of Fox Lake and Wes (Karen) Katsma of Portage. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother Corny (Helen) Katsma of Randolph; 2 sisters Barbara (Dirk) Visser and Grace Homan; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2009, daughter Bonnie Smit in 2006, brothers Clarence (Alice) Katsma, John and Sam Katsma; sister Tena (Henry) Burmania; brothers and sisters-in-law Arnold Homan, Harry (Mary) Stuit, Peter (Francis) Stuit, John Stuit, Albert (Nellie) Stuit, Anna (George) Fischer, Tena (Jake) Meyer and Grace (Olaf) Anderson.

A celebration of Hans’ life will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at First Randolph Christian Reformed Church, N8876 East Friesland Road, with Rev. Kenneth Prol officiating. Burial will follow in the Friesland Cemetery.

Hans family will receive relatives and friends of Tuesday, January 13 at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service.

A memorial fund is established in Hans’ name.
