Ronald Glendon Alsum, age 66, of Friesland passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.
Ron was born on October 27, 1950, in Beaver Dam , WI to Dewey and Gertrude (Tobak) Alsum. As a young boy Ron helped to run the Alsum family farm alongside his 5 siblings. He attended Randolph High School. He married Patti (Quade) Stiemsma in 1971 and they had one daughter, Melissa Ann. The young family moved to California where Ron worked for his Uncle's carpet cleaning business and later found he had a knack for laying carpet. After living on the West Coast for several years, Ron returned to the Friesland area and worked for a trucking company. Ron will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends. Ron enjoyed various sports, music, deep conversation, and often visited the library as he was an avid reader. He will certainly be remembered by many as a man of refreshing wit and humor. He also took great pride in his home and gardens over the years and was always generous with sharing what he grew. Ron enjoyed visiting with his daughter and her family, he had three grandchildren he loved and they shared many cookouts, lunches , and visits to the Amish store in Dalton. Those closest to Ron appreciated that he was a genuine person and one who was able to live richly through a simple life.
Ron is survived by his daughter Melissa (Joe) Raboin, his 3 grandchildren : Emmaline Nicole, Samuel Glendon, and Henrik Gene, of Wisconsin Rapids; his brother Milton (Joyce) of Loveland , CO; a sister Judy Abel of Fox Lake ; a sister Jackie (Bob) Hoekstra of Waupun.
Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents Dewey and Gertrude Alsum, his sister Marilyn Quade, his brother Duane Alsum, and his sister in law, Marlene Vandentop.
A celebration of Ronald’s life will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan, WI.
