Elizabeth Anna Sameitat passed away at the age of 95. She was born in Munich, Germany, the daughter of Karl and Barbara Stolz and grew up in Dachau, Germany. She attended grade school and then received her banking diploma after attending Handelsschule in Munich. She worked for the Kreis-und Stadtsparkasse in Dachau for eight years.
On August 6, 1949, she married Ernest Sameitat who was released by the USA as a German POW. In 1951, they emigrated to the USA with their three month old daughter Juanita and went to Indiana where their sponsor was. But because they missed the German way of life, they relocated to Milwaukee in Wisconsin. There they made many friends, had a house built and settled down. In 1958, they all became Citizens of the USA. In 1961, Nita’s sister Monica was born.
After nine years enjoying family life in their own home, Ernest died suddenly on February 25, 1965. He was greatly missed by his family. Elizabeth kept on working and raised the children as a single parent. After thirteen years working at Militzer’s Bakery, she changed to office work at Loewi & Co. She joined several German Societies and sang in the Damenchor Bavaria. After 20 years at the firm she retired in 1990 and enjoyed life as a Golden Ager.
In 1992, Elizabeth moved to Friesland because her two daughters and their families lived in the vicinity. She was the second renter with her two cats Mitzi and Spunky in the new apartment building. For some years she attended Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Friesland. In 1993, she bought a house in the village of Randolph and had some remodeling done. In Friesland and in Randolph she helped out where ever she saw the need and contributed to many beneficial causes in the Village, although people probably don’t remember it because she was not a “volunteer”.
She loved working in her vegetable and flower garden and went to the UW in Fond du Lac to become a Master Gardener. She grew many vegetable varieties, especially heirlooms. And the rosebushes, which she grew in remembrance of her husband, were her love and joy. She finally had time to see the world including her relatives in the OLD COUNTRY.
For some years she was physically handicapped but instead of going to a place of Assisted Living she found wonderful helpers in Louise Paul and Gwen Shoffner who helped her to live in her own home. She was also grateful for the volunteers who delivered the Meals on Wheels.
Elizabeth is survived by her two daughters, Nita (Tom) Hundt of Hustisford and Monica Cook of Randolph; eight grandchildren, Scott (Steph) Hundt, Elena Hundt, Matthew (Karen Pierson) Hundt, Eric (Renata) Cook, Betsy Cook, Mercy Cook, Nita Cook and Katy Cook; nine great grandchildren; further survived by cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, and son-in-law, Fred Cook.
And that’s the way it was.

Do not stand by my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glint of snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars light that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not here. I did not die.
