Gary Lee Brown

Gary Lee Brown, age 74 of Brandon, went to his heavenly home on Friday, June 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Gary was born in Beaver Dam on July 9, 1950, son of Walter and Virginia (Rahn) Brown. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. Gary graduated from Brandon-Fairwater High School as part of the Class of 1968. He was united in marriage to Marsha Rude-Dorst on October 6, 2001. Gary dedicated an impressive 42 years to his career at Joseph Lorenz Construction, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment.

A man of many interests, Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors, often picking apples and raspberries. He had a passion for antique tractors and cars, finding joy in fixing them up. Throughout his life, he demonstrated an immense kindness, always willing to help others, often setting aside his own personal projects to lend a hand.

Gary's strong faith was evident in his involvement with the church; he was a proud member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and school board. The Fairwater community also benefited from his leadership when he was president in 1984 and remained a current member of the Historical Society.

More than anything, Gary cherished his family. He was often celebrated as the best grandpa ever, finding tremendous joy in spending time with his grandchildren. His love for his family was deep, and they meant the world to him. Gary’s passion for genealogy also reflected his love for family. His legacy will live on through the love he shared with his family and friends.

Gary is survived by his wife Marsha Brown; daughter Shari (Chris) Hayes and two sons, Joe Brown and Jim (Alison) Brown; two step daughters, Laura (Don) Galster and Michelle (fiancé Mike Johnson) Lichtenberg; four grandchildren, Matthew Hayes, Lakely, Jemma and Brixton Brown; eight step grandchildren, Mitchel Hayes, Makenna (fiancé Jon Williams) Hayes, Julian, Aidan and Dayne Galster, Nathan Dorst, Aleea and Royce Lichtenberg; one great granddaughter Kensleigh Williams and a great granddaughter due in September. He is further survived by his sister, Vivian Bertram; sister-in-law, Nancy Brown and mother of his children, Kathy (Fred) Whitehouse; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Eric Brown, brothers, Curtis Brown and Ronald, sister-in-law Phyllis Brown and brother-in-law, Gene Bertram.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Faith Lutheran Church, N1529 State Road 73, Markesan and on Saturday, June 21th at Faith Lutheran Church beginning at 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service. A funeral service for Gary will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Matthew Ude officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairwater Cemetery.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses and aides on Floor 6 at SSM Health, SSM Hospice, and Markesan Residence Home for the loving care and dignity they provided Gary during his final days.
