George Norman Eisenga, age 73, of Fox Lake, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his home on Friday, May 22, 2026. He “walked” in dignity to the very end with the disease of ALS.
George was born on March 14, 1953, in Waupun, WI, the son of Clarence and Dorothy (Voortman) Eisenga. At the age of 18 while a student at Calvin University, George began a strong relationship to Jesus Christ which led to building and leading communities of people in a variety of settings.
It was clear George was a man who loved his family and cherished the simple, meaningful moments they shared together, but also LOVED a good vacation. On January 26, 1974, he was united in marriage to Laurel (Laurie) Marie Beelen in Muskegon, Michigan, beginning a love story that remained vibrant and soul-deep for over five decades. Some fond memories include rustic adventures and Sunday afternoons in the woods with friends or family for hot dog roasts on the family farm. The profession of farming was fitting for George as it allowed him the flexibility for spontaneous water fights with his children and time in the woods, but more importantly, it uniquely connected heaven and earth for him.
An avid outdoorsman, George enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking, finding freedom and joy in the outdoors. He brought together an outstanding generational hunting group. He was a high school church youth leader (27 years) and youth basketball coach (10 years). George will be remembered as a decisive and passionate leader. He served on leadership capacities in both church and school boards. He enjoyed sports, woodworking, boating, bookwork and cooking- especially over a fire. The last 10 years before he retired, he worked at UWGP as an operator. He was a vibrant member of Living Hope Community Church in Fox Lake.
George is survived by his precious wife Laurie Eisenga; daughters, Kia (UB) Essien, Jackie (Mike) Sonuga, and his son, Brandt (Alisa) Eisenga; as well as his nine cherished grandchildren who brought immense joy into his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Winifred Cupery, Carol (Jerry) Veenhuis, Phyllis (Daniel) Mulder, Mary (James) Rasmus, and Doris (Bruce) Mulder; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his baby brother, his mother-in-law Mary Beelen, his sister-in-law Melanie Beelen, and his brother-in-law Darvin Cupery.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and felt his strong inner character. He clearly knew who he was in Jesus Christ. The patience, warmth, and acceptance he extended to those around him was exceptional.
A memorial service will be held at Living Hope Community Church (740 W State St, Fox Lake, WI 53933) on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 10:30 am followed by a casual style Open House/ Visitation running from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm where you may greet family and enjoy one of George’s favorite treats: cake and ice cream!
