Gordon Peter Johnson, age 76 of Cambria, passed away at his home with family at his side on Tuesday, July 24, 2018.
Gordy was born on April 11, 1942, a son of Palmer and Alice Johnson. He graduated from Lincoln High School of Wisconsin Rapids in 1961, and then earned his degree in education at University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. He worked as a teacher at the Cambria-Friesland School District, a maintenance mechanic at the local canning factory, a farmer and lastly as a mechanic/grounds keeper for Cardinal Glass of Portage. Gordy participated in the Cambria Village Development Committee, attended car shows and fly-ins with friends and earned numerous awards in the Badger State Games. He loved music and was very talented with his banjo and guitar. Gordy will be most remembered for his passion in planet preservation, recycling, compassion for all living things and value of family time. On May 23, 1973, he married Bonita Van Hoof of Freedom, WI. Together they raised two daughters and enjoyed the life of watching their grandchildren grow.
His wonderful life will be forever cherished by his wife, Bonnie; daughters, Jennifer Mackey of Lodi and Jacquelyn (Allen) Drews of Randolph; grandchildren, Jordyn, Kyle, Addison, Nolan, Reagan and Brooklyn; two brothers, Marlin of Waukesha, WI and Larry of Bloomington, IL; sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family extends deepest appreciation to Agrace Hospice staff and services.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Randolph Community Funeral Home, 208 South High Street, Randolph.
A private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
