Hazel Eileen Whittaker, age 75 of Ripon, was called home to heaven on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the Barrett House in Markesan.
Sam was born on December 18, 1950, in Wolverine, Michigan, daughter of George and Betty (Gouthier) Whittaker. Sam served diligently as a secretary for the Ripon School District, playing an essential role behind the scenes to support education. In addition, she spent several years driving bus, ensuring the safe transportation of students with care and reliability.
Sam was known for her vibrant personality and tireless energy. Always on the go, she generously gave her time to volunteer at the Ripon Food Pantry, assisting those in need with both kindness and grace. She delighted in a variety of hobbies that reflected her creative and nurturing nature—knitting, crafting, and tending lovingly to her flowers. Her affection for her dogs was evident to all who knew her, and she treasured the joy they brought into her life.
Sam took immense pleasure in spending quality time with her loved ones, especially in playing cards and engaging with her great-grandchildren. She made every effort to keep up with their lively spirits, always embracing the energy and warmth that family brought to her world. Later in life, Sam made a meaningful decision to adopt her grandson Justin, raising him with all the love she had. Sam was also a devoted member of the River Shores Church in Berlin.
Sam is survived by her son Karl “Joe” (Lisa) O’Donnell II of Byron Michigan and her daughter, Paula O'Donnell (Ed Sullivan) of Markesan and adopted son, Justin Whittaker of Ripon; four grandchildren, Brianna (James) Gardner, Karl “Joe” O’Donnell III, Jesse O’Donnell and Aaron (Emily) Damerow; two great grandchildren, Peyton and Maisie Gardner; further survived by two sisters and a brother, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Luke Damerow and four siblings.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Markesan Community Funeral Home 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Casey Getz officiating.
