Herbert Davis

Herbert Elmer Davis, age 81 of Markesan, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Barrett House of Ripon with family at his side.

Herb was born in Ripon, WI on April 15, 1945 to Warren and Lona Mae (Davison) Davis, the eldest of eight children. He attended school in Markesan before serving in the U.S. Army from 1962-1970. Herb was united in marriage to Gloria Rowe on February 8, 1964. After his service, they settled back in Markesan where they raised a daughter and spent the rest of their years. He spent more than 20 years at Friday Canning before happily retiring. Herb was a man of many hobbies - from bowling and dart leagues to hunting, fishing, and camping. And collections too numerous to list. He will be remembered for his quick wit and gentle sarcasm. He was always ready with a joke or story, and never took himself too seriously. He kept his lips zipped when children would whisper to their parents, “Is that Santa?” when he walked by. A good sport always. 

He is survived by his daughter, Brenda and her partner, Ryan; sisters, Lisa and Margaret; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Gloria; his parents; brothers Robert, Lee Roy, Richard, and Gilbert; and sister, June.

Per Herb’s wishes, no services will be held. Markesan Community Funeral Home assisted the family. A sincere thanks to SSM Hospice and the Barrett House who provided excellent care and kindness.
