Janice "Jan" Mary McCormick

Janice Mary McCormick, age 86 of Markesan, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Markesan Resident Home.

Jan was born on September 6, 1939, in South Beloit, WI, daughter of Charles and Mary (Welch) Harrington. She was a graduate of Madison East High School, class of 1957. For 11 years, she dedicated herself to caring for local families through her in-home daycare, bringing joy and education to many children during their early years.

Jan enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas, where the thrill of gambling captivated her. Whether it was playing the slots, trying her luck with scratch-off tickets, or placing a bet on a football game, she embraced the excitement with enthusiasm. It is fitting that she went out winning her last bet on the Superbowl game.

In her quiet moments, Janice found companionship in her beloved cat, Lily, whom she cherished deeply. Her warmth and love touched the hearts of those around her, and her memory will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Jan is survived by her children, Teri (Kerry) Turner, Kim (Jack) Goes and James (Sue) McCormick; grandchildren, Jen (Paul) Belau, Aja, Ian and Jacob; sister, Karen Ross; in-laws, Mary Pliszka, Anne Endres, Lorraine and Patricia McCormick; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard McCormick; son, John McCormick; brothers, Charles and Don Harrington; in-laws, Donald Ross, Robert (Mary), William (Nyla), Michael (Patricia), George, Thomas, Lorraine and Patrick McCormick, George Pliszka & Michael Endres.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan, WI 53946.

A funeral service for Jan will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Markesan Community Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at Phelps Cemetery.
