Leonard Elmer Auchtung

Leonard Elmer Auchtung, age 74, of Cambria, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

Leonard was born on June 23, 1952, in Hustisford, Wisconsin, the son of Leonard and Joanne (Klemme) Auchtung. On September 26, 1981, he was united in marriage to Diane Jonas in Dodge County. Leonard lived a life shaped by hard work, devotion, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

Leonard was a carpenter who was always working with his hands. His craftsmanship and willingness to help others could be seen throughout his community, where he even helped build many of his neighbors’ houses. He was also an avid outdoorsman whose happiest times were often spent in nature. Leonard loved hunting and fishing, and his enjoyment of fishing led him to enter tournaments as well. His appreciation for the outdoors extended beyond sport to the simple pleasures of gardening, bird watching, and feeding the birds.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Diane Auchtung; children, Abeni (Michael) Quade, Ashley (Camron) Dornfeld, Aimee (Brad) Vergin, Dylan (Ashley Zuge) Auchtung and Rachell (Frank) Mayle; grandchildren, Hayden, Alyssa, Madelyn, Aubrey, Hunter, Addison, Owen, Kinsley, Finnley, Watson, Kyle, Trevor and special grand dog, Gracie; great granddaughter, Lillian; siblings, Connie (Steve) Polinsky, Jackie Auchtung, Geraldine Auchtung and Cameron Auchtung; and mother-in-law, Ludgeria Jonas. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Julie Alsum and Tim Auchtung; father-in-law, Robert Jonas; and brother-in-law, Willy Jonas.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Markesan Community Funeral Home, 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan, WI 53946. Burial will be held at Salemville Cemetery with a luncheon to follow.
