Leslie Ortiz, age 77 of Markesan, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Leslie was born on April 3, 1948, in the Bronx, New York, son of Marcelino and Margarita (Negron) Ortiz. In his earlier years, Leslie shared his love of music by playing guitar and bongos in a salsa band in Puerto Rico. This passion brought joy to many and was a treasured part of his life. He was united in marriage to Cheri Rowley on September 16, 1987, in Green Lake, WI. Leslie spent much of his life dedicated to his work and family. In 1985, he moved to Markesan and started Handy Hands Construction. For more than 30 years, he ran the business with care and commitment. After a long week of hard work, Leslie enjoyed going to car shows with his wife, Cheri. He was known for being very family-oriented and welcoming to all who entered his home. He made others feel safe and cared for, always ready to lend a hand. Many remember him simply as someone who was always there to help others.
Leslie is survived by his loving wife, Cheri Ortiz, children, Elizabeth (Matt K.) Ortiz, Phillip (Alyssa P.) Ortiz, Manuel (Nichole) Ortiz, Norbert (Amber) Ortiz, Maria Ortiz, Leslie Ortiz, Tony (Tania) Courchaine; grandchildren, Brooks, Aurora, Bentley, Brant, Gabriella, Maverick, Abigail, Quintin, Olivia, Autum, Mylee, April, Landon, Alejandro, Aqualina, Angelina, Alena, Anabel, Aset, Sophia, Cameron, Rebekah, Kaylee, Tony Jr., Jordan, B.G., Olivia, Aden, Randy, Roman; four great grandchildren; brothers, Marcelino Ortiz, Andy (Felicia) Rivera; sister-in-law, Lynette Ortiz and Arletta Rowley; brother-in-law, Earl Rowley; nieces and nephews, Elianette, Jose, Alex, Amber (Eric) Desdoni; further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Nadine, Hilda, Elia; brother, Joe and his granddaughter, Araceli.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Markesan Memorial Cemetery.
