Marion Frances Birkholz

August 1, 1931 — November 13, 2025

Waupun

Marion Frances Birkholz, age 94, of Waupun, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Waupun, Wisconsin.

Marion was born on August 1, 1931, in Lowell, Wisconsin, the daughter of Candidus and Frieda (Ganz) Meier. She was baptized in her hometown of Lowell on October 4, 1931, and confirmed at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reeseville, Wisconsin, on March 25, 1945. Marion was a graduate of Juneau High School, class of 1949. After graduating, she worked at Reeseville Canning Company until her marriage. On June 28, 1950, Marion married the love of her life, Merwyn Birkholz at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reeseville.

Marion was a hardworking individual who dedicated her career to serving the community. She worked at Sears, the Waupun Knitting Mill, and the National Bank of Waupun, where she held the position of assistant cashier and head bookkeeper from 1967 until her retirement in 1990. Marion also dedicated time to bookkeeping for Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun.

She was proud of her Swiss heritage and cherished her family above all else. Marion had a passion for baking and making pickles, often sharing her delicious creations with family and friends. Her community spirit was evident through her long-time membership at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun. There, she actively participated in the Ladies Aid, taking on roles such as Vice President and Treasurer. For 25 years, Marion dedicated her time to the Sunday School Department as a teacher and treasurer. She was also involved with the Christmas committee and a member of Bible class. Her commitment to the community extended beyond the church. Marion served on the Lincoln School PTA, was a 4-H leader, and, along with her husband, delivered Meals on Wheels.

In her leisure time, Marion enjoyed gardening, working outdoors, and engaging her mind with crossword puzzles. She liked picking hickory nuts, making sauerkraut, playing cards and spending time at her trailer at Tomahawk.

Marion is survived by her daughters, Darlene Birkholz and Denise (Joseph) Bauer; grandchildren, Dakota (Julie) Birkholz and Robert Bauer; and one great grandson, Bennett Birkholz. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
