Matthew Craig VanHise, age 51 of Markesan passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Barrett House in Green Lake.
Matt was born on March 5, 1974, in Rochelle, IL, son of Ron Van Hise and Jodi (Myroth) Vande Berg. He graduated from Markesan High School, class of 1992. Matt was a dedicated mechanic at W&D Navis Inc. for 19 years, where his skills and work ethic were appreciated.
Those who knew Matt knew him as a kind and caring man. He had an infectious smile and a unique ability to engage others in conversation, often leaving a trail of laughter in his wake. He was often described as the life of the party, always ready to entertain those around him. Family was extremely important to Matt, and he cherished the time spent with them, particularly enjoying special moments with his nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered as the best uncle anyone could ask for.
In his leisure time, he embraced a variety of hobbies, enjoying activities such as tractor pulls, snowmobiling, and looked forward to his Nascar trips to Michigan with his friends.
Matt is survived by his mother, Jodi (Randy) Vande Berg; his father, Ron VanHise; his brother, Ryan (DeeDee) VanHise; and his sister, Cami (Jake) Vande Berg. He also leaves behind two step-brothers, Josh (Missy) Vande Berg and Andy (Crystal) Vande Berg. His beloved nieces and nephews: Collin, Cody, Chloe, Benton, Mia, Kinley, Makya, Emma, Chase, and Thor; he is further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the SSM Hospice staff and Mindy Schmick at Barrett House for their kindness and support during this difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at The Hitching Post W3350 Main Street Manchester, WI 53946.
