Richard Dean Walburg

Richard Dean Walburg, age 89 of Dalton, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 19, 2025.

Richard was born on January 8, 1936, in Edgerton, Wisconsin, son of John and Rose (Crandall) Walburg. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Przybylski on October 20, 1962. Richard served his country by enlisting in the Army from 1954 to 1962, establishing a foundation of service that he carried into his professional life. Richard had a long and fulfilling career, dedicating 30 years to GE Healthcare facility of Madison, previously known as Datex-Ohmeda, retiring from the company with pride. His career reflected his strong work ethic, which reflected his personality, alongside his private nature.

Richard was not just a devoted worker; he was also a loving father who raised his children on his own with care and affection. He cherished spending time with family and friends, gathering for a game of cards or enjoying a social drink with others. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, going to auctions, and tinkering on his Model A car with friends. His pride in his family was evident, and he found joy in spending time on the farm, a place that held many fond memories for him. He was a proud member of the Duwane "Sonny" Walker American Legion Post 395 of Kingston, where he engaged with fellow veterans.

Richard is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Jeremy) Roska and Crystal Walburg; seven grandchildren, Vanessa (Jon) Vande Berg, David (Jolene) Cotterill, Daniel (Amanda Kimber) Cotterill, Melissa (Ian) Ashby, Ashley (Gilbert) Miller, Amber (Josh) Yahnke and Brittany (Joe Mertens) Miller; many great grandchildren; son-in-law, Douglas Miller and his good friends, Ty, Dennis, and Menu; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Elizabeth “Betty” Przybylski; daughter, Betty Miller and his son in infancy, Shane Walburg; sister, Charlotte Grimes and his brother, Robert Walburg; his childhood friends Don and George, who were like brothers to him, both of whom have passed on.
