Randolph

Samuel Kok, age 93 of Randoph, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025, at his home.

Sam was born on December 13, 1931, in the town of Randolph, son of Joe and Grace (Schregardus) Kok. On December 17, 1954, he was united in marriage to Carol Huizenga.

Sam enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. Upon his return, he settled on the family farm and took over the gas route for Kok Oil Company. He was a lifelong member of Second Christian Reformed Church of Randolph.

Sam’s life revolved around the farm and the cycle of the seasons. He never really retired. He did find time to play slow pitch softball and coach the boys basketball team at Immanuel Christian and Randolph Christian School. He also enjoyed throwing horseshoes and shooting pool.

Sam was an active member of the Randolph Post 9510 VFW and served on the honor guard. He participated in every Labor Day parade and the program at the cemetery on Memorial Day. He also served in the honor guard at military funerals and at various schools on Veterans Day. Another duty he undertook was burning the American flags that were collected for disposal by the VFW. He participated in the Badger Honor Flight and was very proud of his military service.

Sam is survived by three children, Joseph (LouAnn) Kok of Fox Lake, Marie (Timothy) Vossekuil of Randolph and Merle (Cheryl) Kok of Fox Lake; nine grandchildren, Sam (Mary) Kok, Tasha (Nick) Niemi; Courtney, Chad (Haley Maxon) and Molly Vossekuil; Chelsea (Justin) Foegen, Rachel (Joshua) Brenholt, Erik Kok and Melanie Kok (Alex Gutierrez); ten great-grandchildren, Abigail, Oliver and Adelaide Niemi, Joseph and Ella Kok, Calvin and Charlotte Foegen, Peyton, LouElla and DeLainey Brenholt; one brother, Julius (Arlette) Kok of Michigan, one sister-in-law, Harlene Driesenga, of Michigan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; three sisters, Lucille Swaagman, Shirley Bishop and Glenda Kok; brother, Ronald Kok; and brothers-in-law, Darvin Swaagman and Dale Bishop.
