Scott Marshall

Neenah

Scott Edward Marshall, 80, of Neenah, WI passed away May 29. 2026. He was born January 6, 1946 in Richland Center, WI to Leita and Arland Marshall, and grew up on the family farm near Hillsboro.

Scott attended Hillsboro High School, where he actively participated in athletics, including football, basketball, and track and field – in which he especially excelled in running the half-mile. Scott ran the half mile in below 2 minutes, which was an excellent time for that period. Scott was particularly proud of a relay performance by him and his three other teammates, (the late) Leo Fronk (220 yds), Charles Stanek (220 yds), and David Braithwaite (440 yds). Running the anchor leg (880 yds) at the 1964 Wisconsin Championship Meet, the four finished a close second – and both teams broke the state record in what was then called the Sprint Medley Relay.

Scott also attended Western Wisconsin Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he participated in track and field. He often remarked about his college running competition including several runners from Kenya, who at the time, were just beginning to come to the U.S. for school and to compete in Track – to later distinguish themselves in many marathons and Olympic events. Scott marveled at their extraordinary talent for distance running, shaped by training at high altitude.

Scott also served in the Wisconsin National Guard for 6 years. His working life included over 40 years with what is now Cudahy Foods in Cudahy, Wisconsin.

Scott was united in marriage to Holly Gaye, who preceded him in death on October 7, 2025. He was also preceded in death by their daughter, Lark Markunas; granddaughter Caelan Markunas; and his parents, Leita and Arland Marshall of Hillsboro. Scott is survived by grandsons, Alex and Aaron Markunas, and brothers Curtis (Tish) Marshall of Falls Church, VA and Douglas (Diana) Marshall of Hillsboro. Nieces (Sara, Emily, and Hillary) and nephew (Benjamin) greatly admired their Uncle Scott.

Scott always displayed immense kindness, respect, and humility, and was very considerate of others in all that he did. He was a selfless and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who loved the great outdoors and all that it had to offer, especially hunting and fishing. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan and could instantly recite the latest stats about the team. Scott will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

A graveside memorial for Scott will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kingston Cemetery.
